Luka Modric agrees on a new deal with Real Madrid

Reportedly Luka Modric will sign a new contract with Real Madrid in a move that would end the speculations of a transfer to Inter Milan. It has been reported that the Croatia international has already agreed on the terms that will put him on equal terms with Sergio Ramos, who is one of the highest earners at the club. Marca and AS’ have been spreading this new around and they are known for their close ties to Los Blancos.

Since the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia has ended Modric has been heavily linked with Inter Milan and after that, it has been reported a meeting with the club president Florentino Perez so Modric can discuss his future. This meeting took place on Friday, August 10th. A few months ago a move to Italy seemed unlikely but the departures of Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo have suggested otherwise.

Perez is aware that Real is a club in transition and he appears to have embraced that. Inter has a strong Croatian contingency so they didn’t make a secret out of their desire to reunite with Modric this summer.

As reported, manager Julen Lopetegui said that Real had no intention of parting with Modric, a bit in the same interview he also stated that Mateo Kovacic would not leave Madrid. Just days later the latter’s season-loan to Chelsea became official. Meanwhile, Modric has kept quiet, with speculations mounting feeding the belief his desire was to move to Italy. On Friday he took to social media a photo of himself training with Los Blancos.

Modric has been with Real since 2012 and after a shaky start in La Liga, he has developed into one of the most pivotal players of the club. But the rumors and speculations will likely to continue until the player addresses the situation. But even then the papers may not get quite yet until he signs a new deal or the Serie A transfer deadline passes, considering that Italian clubs can add players until August 17th.
