As reported Manchester United are poised to complete the final signing of Toby Alderweireld, the defender of Tottenham Hotspur as early as Monday. For the Belgium international it has been said that the Red Devils have struck a £60 million deal with the Spurs since the first offer has been unwillingly met by United for £75 million valuations of the player.
Alderweireld is set to make the switch to United in the coming days with the negotiations have advanced in the past 48 hours. Before the transfer window closes on Thursday it was from a grand significance and priority for Jose Mourinho signing the defender. As possible targets also have been mentioned the names of Leicester City man Harry Maguire and Barcelona center-back Yerry Mina.
But the favorite one to move to Old Trafford seems to be Alderweireld, who ended a successful-year stay in North London. It has been noticed that Mourinho has spent a lot of money improving his center-back options. Under the leading of the Portuguese, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly have both been brought in, they have shown promises at times, but neither of them established himself as a Premier League regular.
According to Manchester Evening News, the links between United and the defenders have been plentiful this summer.
When Alderweireldis at his best he is arguably the best defender in the division, who is able to mix it physically with the strongest forwards while being wise enough to cope with some of the quickest. He is also a fine technical player. Alderweireld in the past two campaigns has struggled with injuries and he turns 30 in March. That’s why for Manchester the deal represents something of a gamble.
But still, he has proved himself in the Premier League and will be undoubtedly an upgrade on the Mourinho’s exciting options since he is an elite defender.
