The France players lingered on the pitch for several long minutes, reveling in a happy ending that will be remembered for eternity, fresh off their triumph in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Final. The challenge posed by the excellent Croatia side has been overcome by a generation of supremely gifted players showing their passion and determination to run out victorious in a game that they never had complete control – despite scoring four goals.
Their celebration was almost as if they were not quite sure how to express so much joy in one go, so they subsequently emerged singing and shouting.
“The party is only getting started. This is just the beginning: we’re going to savor this win for four years!” – Benjamin Pavard explained.
The heroes, while flooded by messages by the loved ones, got a glimpse of the scenes of joy that were playing out across France. Les Bleus cavorted in nothing but underwear and then got dressed again while congratulating each other. They were beside themselves.
Paul Pogba said: “What? Am I mad? I must be mad! I scored in the Final!”
An extra touch of charm and mystique during the closing ceremony added the torrential rain, to an occasion that no one seemed prepared for.
As player and coach after becoming just the third man to win the World Cup, Didier Deschamps couldn’t keep his emotions away and added: “This is amazing, it’s the pinnacle: France is on top of the world! It’s really fantastic. Kudos to the team and my staff. We’ve spent 55 days working hard together. I’m thrilled to see my players so happy. They did it and I’m proud of them.”
While headed off for his press conference, the squad ambushed him and doused him with champagne and beer. They released all the tension and pent-up stress from the past month and a half in which they have worked and lived together. That was a moment of collective euphoria and happiness that France deserved for sure on this World Cup. The togetherness has been rewarded. Team France knows that they have written their own names in history on a precise date, July 15th, 2018, which will not be forgotten.
