Spain’s football can evolve – Luis Enrique

The Asturian coach has been officially unveiled as La Roja’s new coach. He has been presented at an event organized by the Spanish Football Federation in which he explained how delighted he is to be undertaking the projects and its fundamentals. The 48-year-old told the attending media: “I’m very excited about this challenge and the possibility of ratcheting the team up a notch. I’ll be giving it everything I have. I’m ready and really eager to win the competitions that await us. All I can say is, ‘Let’s go win them!” Luis Rubiales, the president of the Federation, explained that after the resignation of his replacement Fernando Hierro after the team’s exit from the 2018 FIFA World Cup and after the dismissal of Julen Lopetegui they pu all their hopes on Luis Enrique by saying: “He is the only coach with whom we got in touch. It’s been very straightforward because of his commitment and passion, and we’ll be doing everything we can to make him feel comfortable.” The Federation’s new technical director Jose Francisco Molina described Enrique as a modern coach with a great work methodology. Luis Enrique’s Method Evolution not revolution The coach said there will be no radical changes to the team’s playing style, insisting that the style founded and defined by the former Spain coach Luis Aragones was what they should continue with. Tactical modifications “We’ll come up against opponents who respect us and who will defend en masse. That’s where our work will come in – enabling our players to recognize those instances and overcome them.” The coach explained to himself that one of the objectives is to improve effectiveness in front of goal. Psychology – Fundamental to Performance Luis Enrique will have a psychologist as part of his staff when coaching at club level. He says that a psychologist is an option they give to the players, privately seeking to help them as much as possible to improve their performance.

The reputations on the rise in Russia

Kieran Trippier 27, wing-back, England Trippier’s dead-ball ability was fundamental to England’s run to the semi-finals built on the back of set pieces. The 3-5-2 formation allowed both Trippier and Kyle Walker to feature, allowed the Tottenham wing-back to find his place in the side, just with a switch of that formation. He was instrumental in some of the Three Lions most memorable moments when delivering the corner of Harry Kane’s winner against Tunisia and the sensational free-kick against Croatia in the semi-final.       Denis Cheryshev 27, midfielder, Russia This World Cup for Cheryshev would’ve been more of a dream experience if he had stepped out on the Luzhniki pitch for the Final. After having suffered an injury-disrupted spell at Villareal so far, and after failing to break through at Real Madrid this has been his time to shine. Striking in the quarter-final against Croatia was a simple evidence of that.       Takashi Inui 30, midfielder, Japan His signing is looking impressively since snapped up by Real Betis before the tournament as he drew plenty of admiring glances during Japan’s four games. He shone brightly as a disciple of the classic Samurai Blue style. His quick passing and non-stop dynamism along with the creative focus for the side, bringing goals, unpredictability and invention are just parts of why his reputation is on the rise.     Yerry Mina 23, defender, Colombia Mina’s quality as a rugged-but-classy centre-back had not gone unnoticed. He’s being picked up by Barcelona in January. His talent was far from common knowledge, having earned just a handful of appearances. All that profoundly changed with the towering performances in both boxes. Scoring in the dramatic equalizer against England and scoring in three successive games (including the mentioned one), ensured his hulking figure to stick in the minds of many.

Croatia returns home to a heroic welcome

Upon their arrival home in the Balkan country on Monday afternoon Croatia’s staff and players were greeted to a heroes’ welcome following their runners-up finish at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia – their best placing at a world finals. With the team’s plane, The Vatreni flew into Zagreb being escorted by two Croatian Mig 21 fighter planes. Zlatko Dalic’s squad rode on a rooftop bus after landing at the airport and greeting supporters along the road towards the country’s capital, with the players sharing in the celebrations. In the center of Zagreb, at Bana Jelacica Square the team greeted a large, warm and passionate crowd of appreciative fans. The statue of the war hero governor Ban Josip Jelacic was dropped in a red and white chequered flag also. Zlatko Dalic and the whole team stepped on a stage that has been set up for a welcome in front of the singing crowd so they can address. Wearing the silver medals on their necks, their smiling and satisfied faces were inevitable to notice. The smile on their faces was even bigger when they saw how many fans have come out to greet them and welcome them.  Almost 550.000 people got on the streets and the rest is history!

“Croatia can be proud” – Luka Modric

As national heroes, Croatia’s players and their coach will return from Russia 2018. With a tangible reward for his hugely impressive campaign, Luka Modric heads home with having collected the tournament’s adidas Golden Ball award. He said: “I’m proud of that. I would also like to thank all my team-mates because without their help I would certainly not have received this award. We were so close to winning the World Cup itself, and we will certainly think about it for a long time. But we can be proud. When you see this support of the fans after the match, it definitely makes you happier. We know we did something big here. But when you come so close, it is not easy to take.” Modric winced at the fresh and painful memory of their 4-2 Final loss to France, though justifiably proud with both of his own outstanding performances in Russia and of his team’s spectacular campaign. He also said: “We fought heroically, we did everything to win, but we were unlucky,” he said. “We were the better team most of the match but unfortunately some unlucky and clumsy goals cost us dearly and gave France the advantage.” While Dalic said: “I congratulate France on their title, and I also have to congratulate my players. This was maybe the best game we played in this tournament; we controlled the match. But against a side as strong as France, you must not make mistakes. We are a bit sad but we have to be proud as well for what we’ve done.”

France are the 2018 World Cup Champions!

The France players lingered on the pitch for several long minutes, reveling in a happy ending that will be remembered for eternity, fresh off their triumph in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Final. The challenge posed by the excellent Croatia side has been overcome by a generation of supremely gifted players showing their passion and determination to run out victorious in a game that they never had complete control – despite scoring four goals. Their celebration was almost as if they were not quite sure how to express so much joy in one go, so they subsequently emerged singing and shouting. “The party is only getting started. This is just the beginning: we’re going to savor this win for four years!” – Benjamin Pavard explained. The heroes, while flooded by messages by the loved ones, got a glimpse of the scenes of joy that were playing out across France. Les Bleus cavorted in nothing but underwear and then got dressed again while congratulating each other. They were beside themselves. Paul Pogba said: “What? Am I mad? I must be mad! I scored in the Final!” An extra touch of charm and mystique during the closing ceremony added the torrential rain, to an occasion that no one seemed prepared for. As player and coach after becoming just the third man to win the World Cup, Didier Deschamps couldn’t keep his emotions away and added: “This is amazing, it’s the pinnacle: France is on top of the world! It’s really fantastic. Kudos to the team and my staff. We’ve spent 55 days working hard together. I’m thrilled to see my players so happy. They did it and I’m proud of them.” While headed off for his press conference, the squad ambushed him and doused him with champagne and beer. They released all the tension and pent-up stress from the past month and a half in which they have worked and lived together. That was a moment of collective euphoria and happiness that France deserved for sure on this World Cup. The togetherness has been rewarded. Team France knows that they have written their own names in history on a precise date, July 15th, 2018, which will not be forgotten.

Mbappe could become the next Ronaldo?

As Gary Lineker said ahead of the World Cup final, Kylian Mbappe has the potential to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo as football’s next big star. Scoring two goals, the 19-year-old has helped France through the showpiece getting the chance to play against Croatia on Sunday which is already today. Lineker believes that the young Frenchman from Bondy has everything that it takes to become the next superstar. Indeed Lineker won the Golden Boot at the 1986 World Cup. Lineker clearly said: “His performance in the semi-final of the World Cup, for a player so young, was just incredible. His speed, his technique, his charm and his ability to play the right ball at the right time are incredible. He’s got incredible maturity and is one of the best young players I’ve ever seen. He’s got everything to become the next Cristiano Ronaldo. Look, in fact, he reminds me of the Brazilian Ronaldo. He’s got the same power, the same explosivity, same speed, same brilliant, and everything’s done at an incredible tempo that gives the impression that it is all so easy. He seems unaffected by pressure.” When asked to compare Mbappe with Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney, who both exploded onto the international scene with England at World Cups, the former Barcelona striker said: “Both were able to do incredible things, in particular, Michael Owen in the quarter-final of the 1998 World Cup against Argentina [when he scored a memorable solo goal], but they were human.” Finding the net twice against Argentina in the last 16, but otherwise, Mbappe hasn’t scored at the competition. In only 21 appearances he already has seven international strikes to his credit, having made his debut against in a victory over Luxembourg in 2017. Completing a move from Monaco to Paris-Saint-Germain for 160 million Euros the young attacker is the world’s second most expensive player which has made permanent this summer after a campaign that was technically spent on loan. The World Cup final could represent his first truly stellar silverware having captured the domestic treble in France.
